CNT117 Windows 2008 Active Directory Syllabus

Class: No Mandatory Class meetings

Class Time: 24 hours per day

Units: 3

Recommended: Students should have completed CNT114 or CNT116 or have equivalent network experience.

Course Objectives and Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Identify the concepts of the Active Directory directory service and its logical and physical structure.
  • Implement Group Policy to centrally manage a network using Active Directory directory services.
  • Install Active Directory on a computer running Windows Server and perform post-installation and maintenance tasks.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have experience with:

  • Installing Windows Server 2008
  • Active Directory Design and Security Concepts
  • Account Management
  • Windows File and Print Services
  • Configuring Group Policy
  • Configuring DNS for Active Directory
  • Configuring and Maintaining the Active Directory Infrastructure
  • Active Directory Certificate Services
  • Additional Active Directory Server Roles
  • Server Management and Monitoring

Course Work:
Labs: - Lab Assignments associated with the textbook chapters. You will have access to a live Windows 2008 server which you will use to complete the chapter exercises.
Chapter Review Quizzes: - Questions based on topics covered.
Semester Project: You will submit a project covering many of the concepts you have learned. Details will be provided later.

Grading Policies:
Students will be evaluated based on the following schedule:
Scheduled Course Labs: up to 50 Points
Scheduled Chapter Quizzes: up to 40 Points
Class Project: up to 10 Points
Note that I will deduct 1 point from your final grade for each chapter that is turned in late.

Letter grades will be assigned as follows based on the Total Possible Point Value:
90-100% of Total Number of Points = A
80-89% of Total Number of Points = B
70-79% of Total Number of Points = C
60-69% of Total Number of Points = D
Less than 60% = F

Cheating & Plagiarism Policy:
Don't do it…Consider this…You are taking this class to learn about Windows Server 2008. If you cheat, what have you learned. If you don't learn anything, WHY take the course?

Withdrawal from Class:
If for any reason you need to stop attending the course it is YOUR responsibility to contact the admissions office and withdraw from the class. If YOU stop attending the course and do not drop, I am required by DVC policy to give you an "F".
