This first section in the textbook is called Common Features and contains common elements that a person uses in the MS Office applications. The common features are items like opening files, saving files, entering text and printing.
The Ribbon (formally called the Toolbar) is used to select the different options in the application. The Ribbon is devided into Tabs, Groups and Buttons - Please pay special attention to which one of these you are being asked to use.
Important Note
If you are taking any of the following classes:
CIS - 115 - MS Word
CIS - 116 - MS Excel
CIS - 117 - MS Access
CIS - 118 - MS PowerPoint
This first section is the SAME in all the class textbooks! Remember this section is to teach you the COMMON FEATURES of all the MS Office Applications.
PowerPoint Students - this section is slightly MS Word centric so please pay attention to the processes - saving the file, creating the folder, etc. that is what we need to focus on.
You will not need to submit any of the documents generated in this section.
If you have any questions or comments,

Here's the effect I'm looking for "Glassy see through text"
It may not be obvious how to do this so here it is step by step:
Insert your text. Adjust the font and size (mine is Arial Black 96pt)
Select the text and apply one of the Word Art styles from the Format Tab. The first one is fine. You won';t be able to get transparency without this step.
With the text still selected right click > Format Text Effects.
Select Text Outline and change the line color to suit (I used white)
Select Text Fill and adjust the fill and TRANSPARENCY.
If you wish adjust 3D lighting and material.
Close the dialog and apply a Bevel from Text Effects in the Home tab.

A presentation program (like PowerPoint) is a computer software package used to display information, normally in the form of a slide show. It typically includes three major functions: an editor that allows text to be inserted and formatted, a method for inserting and manipulating graphic images and a slide-show system to display the content.
Please visit this site at About.com for a more detailed explaination of presentation program software.

You insert a sound in PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 and you are pretty sure you did it correctly. Maybe it USED to work but no no sound at all plays. Annoyingly it works fine on other PC! Sound works everywhere else on your PC just not in PowerPoint.
This well hidden setting may be the answer!
Play a PowerPoint in show mode that should have music playing. Make sure the music seems to be playing (but no sound of course).
Press Ctrl T to show the taskbar and click on the speaker icon. If there's no speaker you may need to customize the task bar.
Now Click "Mixer"
Either unmute or raise the volume and see if that helps.

You want to to put a movie on a PowerPoint slide and play it back in slow or fast motion.
Solution
If you add a movie via Insert, Movies And Sounds, Movie From File, you can't change the playback speed.
But PowerPoint MVP and Media Wizard Austin Myers reports that you can use this trick:
From the control toolbox place an instance of Windows Media Player on the slide.
Right click the Windows Media Player control and select Properties.
For the URL property, type the path to your media file.
In Properties click "Custom" then the Advanced tab.
The default "Rate" is 1.0000 change it to .5000 to have the movie play at half speed, or change it to .25000 for quarter-speed playback. Or set the rate higher than 1.0000 for faster-than-normal playback.
Look out, Charlie Chaplin!

You display a slide and the animations on it play as you'd expect them to. You move along to the next slide, then go back to the original slide and this time, the animations won't play.
Solution
Here's the deal: when you return to a slide that's already played, PowerPoint remembers that you've been there, done that, so it shows you the slide as it was in its final state before you moved along to the next one. It's a nice feature really. You wouldn't want to sit through a whole long build series that you've already endure... er.... enjoyed, right?
But sometimes you need to force the slide to start over again from the beginning. When you do:
Insert a new slide just before the animated slide
Give it the Blank slide layout
Set the new slide's Advance settings to Automatically, after 0:00 seconds and give it no transition.
Set any links to point to this slide rather than the one after it
Now when you link to the animated slide, the link will go to the previous slide, automatically and instantly advance to the animated slide itself, but now it'll start the animations from the beginning.
