Unit A - Assignments

In Unit A, you will learn the basic screen elements of PowerPoint and how to use the Themes to create presentations. You will also learn about the four PowerPoint views and how to use them to create a presentation. You will then learn how to save a presentation and use the Save As command, as well as, how to use Help and research information using the new Research feature. Finally, You will learn to print a presentation, close a file, and exit PowerPoint.

PowerPoint makes it easy to present information using a variety of output methods. You can, of course, present information electronically using a computer’s monitor screen or a video projector. You can also use PowerPoint to create handouts or an outline of your presentation that your audience can reference during and after your presentation. Another important feature of presenting information using PowerPoint is the ability to present information over the Web. PowerPoint allows you to save a presentation as a Web page which can be viewed using an Internet browser. Use table A-1 on page PowerPoint A-3 to help you identify the various output options that are available using PowerPoint.

  • The ability to easily and quickly enter, edit, format, and organize presentation content in PowerPoint are the real benefits of using a presentation graphics program to create a presentation. PowerPoint uses the same word processing features as Microsoft Word, which makes creating and modifying presentation content a snap. PowerPoint’s’ views are designed to help you arrange and organize your content.
  • You can also incorporate other information, such as data from Excel or a graphic, into your presentation. Being able to transfer information in and out of PowerPoint is a powerful aspect of the product.

Unit B - Assignments

In this unit, you will learn the very basics of presentation development. You will learn how to plan a presentation, how to enter text in the slide pane and in the Outline tab, and how to add slide header and footer text. You will also learn how to add a slide design, check the spelling of your presentation, and then evaluate your presentation.

  • You can enter slide text in Normal view using the slide pane or the Outline tab. In the slide pane click a text placeholder to place the insertion point and then type your text. There are two default text placeholders on a title slide are the title placeholder and the Subtitle text placeholder. Figure B-2 on page PowerPoint B-5 shows 2 text placeholders. Make sure you understand that the Subtitle text placeholder appears on the title slide only.
  • Placeholders become objects when you enter text or insert an object into them. Objects can be formatted, resized, moved, grouped, aligned, and rotated.

REMEMBER!! Everything you work with on the slide pane in Normal view is an object.

Unit C - Assignments

In this unit, you will learn how to open an existing presentation. You will also learn how to draw, modify, align, and group objects. Afterwards you will also learn how to add text using the Text Box button and how to arrange and format text. At the end of the unit, you will import text from Word into the presentation and customize the color scheme and background.

  • Drawn objects, like all other objects in PowerPoint, can be modified and changed after they are drawn on the slide. You can drag them to other positions on the slide, align them with other objects, and change their appearance. You can change a drawn object's appearance in several ways: by moving its adjustment handle, by moving its sizing handle, which completely changes its shape, by dragging its rotate handle, or by changing its color or other attributes.
  • To adjust the shape of a drawn object, simply drag the adjustment handle (small yellow diamond). To change the shape of the drawn object, select the object, click the Draw menu button on the Drawing toolbar, point to Change AutoShape, point to an AutoShape category, and then click an AutoShape. To rotate a shape, click its rotate handle (small green circle), then drag in the direction you want the object rotated.
