SPEECH 120 – EXAMPLE - Narrative Speech Outline
I. Introduction
A.
(gun shot noise) BOOOOMMM!!!! Oh my God I can't
believe it.
B.
The police hurried to the truck and covered the lifeless
body.
C.
People were swarming around the dead man.
D.
The police officers were trying to get control
of the frantic situation, it was all to much for me to
handle.
II. Body
A.
The day started out relatively normal in
1.
Right before finals. My roommate Melissa and I
were in our living room quizzing each other for our upcoming biology final.
2.
We heard a loud noise that interrupted our
serious study session, coming from outside, and found out that it was coming
from the sky. We soon realized that the noise was a police helicopter.
B.
We immediately ran back into our apartment ''and
turned on the news.
1.
No breaking news story, "What the hell 'is
going on."
2.
I thought that someone was getting busted for
drugs.
3.
Went outside again to see if the neighbors were
out. Colin and Gavin from down the hall were outside- Melissa and I got the scoop.
4.
A man had robbed a local bank in
C.
There had been a high speed chase up the 101
freeway and the robber crashed his little white truck through a church fence
and landed in the back parking lot of our apartment complex.
1.
Being young and stupid my roommate and I decided
to go check the chaotic scene out.
2.
On our way to the car we were ambushed by three fire
trucks, and about seven police cars.
3.
I had to push my way through the thick crowd
3.
that had already gathered around the robbers vehicle, where
two other police officers already were attending to the scene.
D.
The police were yelling and screaming at all of
us to get back to our apartments, that this was a crime scene.
1.
I got a look at the felon in his truck and he
looked like he could have been the poster boy for a prison postcard. Tattooed
arms, and from what I could see under his gnarly scruffy beard, a very
weathered face appeared.
E.
Melissa and I turned to walk away fearing our
safety, when…BOOOOOM!!!!
1.
I looked back and the robber was dead, he had
shot himself in the head, a gruesome scene that still flashes into my mind's
eye once in a while.
III.
Conclusion
A.
I considered myself to be very lucky that day,
for he could have turned his gun on anyone of us in the throng of people.
B. The situation that my roommate and I, and all of the other student residents of the complex put-themselves in was a dangerous one.
C.
Although...my ignorance paid off. I was on the
local nightly news at 6 and 11- telling my personal experience of terror! I was
also quoted in the local county newspapers as an eyewitness. It was there that
I developed a slight interest in one day seeing myself on television again, hopefully
under different circumstances.
